Robotically Controlled Wooden Slat Wall

Collaborative Work
Guangzhou, China
Oct 2024 – Dec 2024
Human-Machine Interaction Experiment
This project investigates human-machine collaboration in design and construction through a robotic-assisted brick assembly tool. A 4-axis Dobot Magician robotic arm was programmed to build bricks with angular variations based on human input, assembling a 12-unit wall as a proof of concept. Experiments were conducted to analyze collaboration variance by testing two variables: workflow sequence and slat configuration. Feedback from 8 participants was collected to evaluate the process, emphasizing the balance between accuracy and creativity in machine-assisted design. The findings offer insights into enhancing human-machine interaction in creative workflows.

Camino Quest Board Game

Individual Work
Guangzhou, China
Jun 2024 – Dec 2024
Board Game Design
The project Camino Quest uses machine learning to analyze the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain through street-view image segmentation and natural language processing (NLP). By examining 20,000+ street-view images and 160,000 Instagram comments, the project reveals how environmental factors, like the sky, shape human's experience on these routes. These insights are then translated into a tangible board game that simulates the pilgrimage journey, offering players an interactive experience. This project highlights how data-driven design can deepen our understanding of human-environment interactions.

3D Printed Bamboo Structure

Collaborative Work
Shanghai, China
Oct 2024 – Nov 2024
Fabrication

This project explores the integration of natural materials and modern fabrication techniques through the construction of a 1.8-meter-tall bamboo structure. Dimensions of 66 bamboo pieces were scanned to design custom 3D-printed joints for precise assembly, with 312 components fabricated and tested for optimal locking mechanisms and structural stability. A prototype for a hexagonal interlocking structure was also designed and produced, showcasing the potential of 3D printing in enhancing modular assembly and stability in hybrid materials.

DuPont Paper and Plywood Art Installation Wall

Collaborative Work
Guangzhou , China
Sep 2021 – Oct 2021
Fabrication

This project was both aesthetically pleasing and cost-effective. The materials chosen, two shades of blue and white DuPont paper, were creatively threaded between brushed and sanded wooden rods and panels, forming a waterfall-like effect. Metal rings fixed the perforations on both sides, with fishing line used for binding. The wall featured a doorway in the center for passage, and seating integrated into the structure for resting and socializing. This design not only served as a functional piece but also provided a space for interaction and relaxation.

Arduion-based Adaptive Tension Structure

Collaborative Work
Beijing, China
Sep 2024 – Dec 2024
Interactive Installation
This project explores the intersection of social behavior and responsive architecture through a dynamic tension structure. Inspired by three social interaction modes—attachment, avoidant, and secure—the structure was designed using Kinect skeleton data to map and reflect human social patterns. The full-scale (1.6m x 1.5m x 1.5m) adaptive system integrates three Arduino-driven motors, enabling real-time shape adaptation in response to user interactions. Responsive elasticity was prototyped with Grasshopper Firefly, allowing the structure to track and react to human posture shifts, creating a seamless dialogue between movement and form.

Ironic Shaxi

Collaborative Work
Dali, China
August 2023
Creative Animation

A stop-motion animation that reimagines the history and future of Sideng Street, Shaxi, reflecting on the interplay between spatial transformation and capital impact. To bring the architectural facades to life, we incorporated hand-drawn illustrations and creatively arranged wood shavings collected from local timber-framed buildings. Commercialized street images generated via PromeAI further explore the tension between heritage preservation and modern development. The animation also utilized 3D scans of the street, developed in Agisoft Metashape with support from drone and camera inputs, and was further brought to life through the creative use of Mental Canvas and Procreate.

Spatial Cognition Class

Kindergarten Assistant Teacher
Guangzhou, China
Nov 2024 – Present

I led weekly activities for a group of 10 children, creating engaging lessons that introduced them to engineering and design concepts, such as building wind-powered models and designing Ferris wheels. Using 3D modeling with blocks, I helped bring their ideas to life while fostering creativity and critical thinking. I also mentored over 40 children, ages 4-6, in basic construction skills, improving their 2D-to-3D spatial awareness. Additionally, I prepared 10 sets of 3D-printed teaching aids to enhance hands-on learning, while carefully tracking each child's progress and identifying opportunities for further development.

River Life Museum in Xiguan

Individual work
Guangzhou, China
Mar 2023 - May 2023
Architectural Design
"He Chong" or rivers form the lifeblood of Guangzhou's urban network and are the foundation of Guangzhou's unique cultural identity. These waterways have witnessed the transformation of Guangzhou's ancient water system and urban history, preserving the collective childhood memories of generations who played along their shores. In the past, many of these waterways were covered due to urban management concerns. However, in recent years, efforts to uncover and restore these canals have brought them back into public focus.

To reconnect people with this rich history, I have designed a 'River Life Museum' beside the Liwanchong. This museum aims to preserve and reflect upon the historical riverside lifestyle, reminding visitors of the vibrant scenes that once thrived along the canals. The museum also serves as a cultural hub, linking the architectural and social boundaries between tourists and the local Xiguan community. Through its exhibits, it offers a space to celebrate the harmony between urban life and traditional waterways, blending nostalgia with modernity.

Kindergarten Design
